Salon Bruit's Tape Only tour of Berlin is slowly approaching its end.
Thursday's show at Open Space in Mitte, just across the border from Kreuzberg,
might be the last one of this kind.

Again magnetic fields will reset inner ear constellations,
before they will be send of to the remote corners of the universe
to get their final rest.

This Weekend + t.b.a. next salon bruit on september 29

This evening, the 23rd of September, Lepke B (see picture on the left) and yours sincerely will play at Wendel in the Schlesische Strasse 42 in Kreuzberg. I can't tell you what you can expect. I am playing but I don't have the slightest idea what we will be doing. Of course there will be tapes and plunderphonics, but we might as well end up drinking tea, eating biscuits and reading the newspaper, while discussing our next song.






Sunday gives a clearer view. You can come for a noise picknick to Kreuzberg, at a free festival that starts early afternoon. The Wolfgang Pedersen Trio will perform at 15.50 in a slightly different line-up then you are used to. Come see and enjoy some disaster movie music.

Friday 22nd of September : Salon Bruit

Come early and you will be able to see the movie Poland! Poland! by Jessy Tuddenham and Lei Miura Fahling. It is announced as a Dance Dockumockery and it is wild. Showings are at 20.00 and at 21.00. The girls will do the bar untill 22.30. Then Salon Bruit takes over. And it will be warm sounds and even warmer beer as always.







Pato from Barcelona, currently living in Berlin will do a laptopset. I watched him play some music in the Fleischerei a few days ago. I can assure you that he is not chatting or checking e-mails. Apart from his own music, he will also do a Dj-set, from behind his computer.
Pato is linked to burn.fm and platoniq in Barcelona. Both groups are active on a polit/cultural local level and in worldwide networking. One of their activities is to install a burn station: a place where you come with your writable cdr, put it in the drive, choose your music to download and burn. It should be somewhere in Berlin, because Pato was there to perform, when they set it up.

The Doppelgängers were born in Berlin a week or so ago. Radical plunderphonics, theremin, radio - and cosmic waves and b-movie behaviour will make up for a set that might look like a silent film. Don't expect sonic fiddlings. The members of the Doppelgängers (or their lookalikes) have been around since last century and way beyond.







At the end of the evening a giant wedding cake will arrive.

12 + 13 September - Running Tapes

I would like to say thanks for coming to Wendel to all our fourty two guests. It was a good and satisfying experience to see how curiousity changed into attentive listening, and finally in feeling at ease in our audiodrome.

Those present can feel themselves lucky to have seen the short duet between Marcel Türkowsky and James Edmonds, and the trio formed by Marco Lampis, Soichiro Mitsuya and James. They took me by surprise for their instanteneous sonical understanding and the sense of harmony that came from their collaboration.

We also had an unique performance by Kenneth and yours sincerely, because they faked the biggest part, by acting as if they were playing. In fact one cassette was left astray, and was playing on its own, out of control. The end effect was like the nude and crude morning after of a RadioDJ who had been on mushrooms all night.

The last part was pure free jazz.

Tuesday 12 September
we return to Wedding where Der Tapeman lives. We have heard from the King of Wedding himself that Der Tapeman will join us.

It will also be your last chance to see James Edmonds play with us. He returns to the UK

It will be a bit different from other performances. We play in Scherer8 and in Der Alte Büchbinderei at the same time. We set up at both places and then walk from one bar to the other. This will lead of course to unpredictable constellations.

Please expect to pay a little entrance fee. We have just founded the future investments inc.
Those who buy a 'Tape Only'- t-shirt get in for free at both places.

we return to the intriguing Schlesische Strasse to do a pin-up evening with Miss Linska & her Sex Tapes Only.
It will be an almost allnighter.
The second half of the night we get some help from Lepke B: his appearance is an illegal one. But what remains of fundamentalism, when there are no others? In fact Lepke sends his Doppelgänger.
Together they will conduct the Tape Orchestra.
We will watch them and sell T-shirts.

September 9 - Salon Bruit's Grosse Tape Schwindel

Hello comrades,

Coming saturday we proceed our series of anti-concerts
in Kreuzberg,
see link at the almost end of this mail for the right address.
We are supposed to be there at eight or something.
Those who have a mixer, please bring the mixer,
if you won't use it, your sounds will.

The bar will put one euro on the first drink,
so there is a slight chance that each of us
will have earned 4 euro at the end of the evening.
We can put this money together and invest it in pins or t-shirts
or whatsoever, or use it in order to diminish our household pains.

September 8 - Kastanienallee 77

Three acts this evening.

Arthur Rother is linked to KULE. He will come to the Kastanienallee for some crosspolinating. Whether he brings a guitar, some help from friends or a dutch folk music ensemble I don't know. I have asked him to bring some peperkoek. If he does so, those who come early will have the chance to get a taste from this dutch delicatesse.




James Edmonds was standing at our bar, drinking orange juice. Somehow Laurent distinguished him as a musician and invited him to play chez nous. Here is his introduction to himself in his own words:

Using computer, 4-track cassette-tapes and a cheap keyboard I try to mold an often dense and textual, continuous flow of sound that evolves and melts into its own form, seemingly out of my control. I come from a background of painting, and recording music has always been a sort of second nature. More recently I began making films, and this triggerred the development of my experiments in low-fi sound. I treat the computer as an instrument in itself, and I don't use any affects pedals!

The blend of pre-recorded and reworked sounds become a lost transmition of personal archival confusion, a labarinth of drone and repetition, sometimes cold and chaotic, sometimes warm and dreamlike. Melody plays the role of a distant memory, mixed up in the concrete perception of noise.

I may also do a piece with a Super8 Film projection and live manipulation of the sound the projector makes.... we'll see.

swerve(nl) aka Matthijs Kouw already did some time in Berlin, before going back to Amsterdam. From his biography I knew that he had been djing on the legendary amsterdam radiostation radio 100. This evening he will do some radio as well. We will put a small transmitter next to him, and a radio in the bar. A further introduction to swerve in his own words is next:

swerve (matthijs vincent kouw) uses a wide variety of source material (metal, voice, field recordings, sine waves, feedback) that is persistently regurgitated. he has presented his work in multiple contexts. his output includes many dj sets (1997-present), music for theatre (2001, 2002), music for a butoh dance piece by lisa marie patzer (2001), music for dance pieces by ina senftleben (2005, 2006), music for film (2003), a collaboration with radboud mens (2002-present), and sound installations (2001, 2003, 2005). furthermore, he had a radio show from 1999 to 2003 on the infamous amsterdam-based radio 100, during which he created a kaleidoscopic mixture of contemporary electronic music. during these shows several elements were layered on top of each other in order to reveal possible interactions of compositions. he is currently focusing on an upcoming solo release, and organizing nights for experimental eletronic
music in amsterdam titled "kinetic engineering".

Hello,

It seems that the next tape only evening is going to be held September 6, in Wedding, home of Der Tapeman. We have been there before. But this time it will be different. Two stages and two venues should be played simultaneously. I don't know how many of us will be there. I hope it will be more then one (myself) because I don't think my fysical condition can keep up with the needs of all the listeners.
