Chiaki Watanabe is a video artist based in Copenhagen and New York, known for her minimal abstract visual music. She works in live visuals, video, video installations, film, theater and performances. Her work explores cross-sensory experience in a minimalist framework by integrating sound and visual imagery. Her interest lies in visual phenomena within music and music within visual phenomena – visual music in physical space - psychophysical effects of visual music - how visual music stimulates the senses. She has performed at venues including Lincoln Center, World Financial Center, Location One, Dance Theater Workshop, The Kitchen, and Merce Cunningham Studio in New York. Her work is distributed by Getty film and iOta center USA.

Though she began her classical training at the age of 5, about 3 years ago she developed an increasing interest in the fields of sound exploration, instant composition, and contact improvisation. She also plays piano, but given the crusty condition of the one in our space, it is doubtful that she'll be tickling the ivories on this evening.

Denitsa is also involved in a project called 4spiral, together with Finnish music artist Alvari Lume.

This will be the first time Denitsa and Chiaki have met, let alone collaborated.

Verónica Mota Galindo (MX) - Surrealism

Cubop is a female sound artist based in Berlin. She has worked as a radio producer, disc jockey, film editor and sound designer for documentaries and avant-garde films. Her sound works research the human mind, focusing on dream territories and psychological landscapes. Since 2007 Cubop has been part of the contemporary experimental noise scene in Berlin playing solo live and collaborating with different creative workers from all over the world.

"... my grandfather (R.I.P) ran a business as a butcher so each time I spent the weekend over there I experienced the pig’s death through a high frequency sound which was pretty strong and traumatic."

Mr. Zunk studied Ethnomusicology at FU Berlin and Classical Javanese Gamelan with Paul Gutama Soegijo and the Banjar Gruppe. The multi-instrumentalist (Traverse Flute, Synthesizer, Hand Drums, Waterphone) has appeared on stage since 1976.

Tonight he'll play solo multi-layered Theremin improvisations for looped Theremin orchestra and maybe one or the other well-known classical melodies, film or television.

Renowned for his analog/digital electronic noize music, as well as music projects such as [low] noiseclub, emergency exit, selbstzerstörungssystem and electronic hardcore, interactive projects like upart/plassma, tapetenclub, up-raum - the Doctor's list continues...

Fake Mistress (It/Berlin)
Currently known for her labyrinthine opera "Arie Antique", this artist has been manipulating material and voice in and around Berlin for over a decade.

LifeLoop (Ir/Berlin)
Lifeloop is a sound artist based in Berlin working on different projects focused on audio or sonic art, its production and the possible media outlets available. He is also co-founder of Salon Bruit.

Valeria Merlini: Äpfelzerstörer

After receiving her degree in Urban Sociology at the University of Architecture in Florence, Valeria earned a postgraduate degree in Master Sound Studies at the Academy of Arts (UdK) in Berlin.

Using the "Äpfelzerstörer-method", she transforms recognizable sounds into a new aural experience. In the process of abstraction and decontextualisation, an intimate communication with the audience is created.

Mario's work explores the potential of fragility, the value of simulation and relations between stability, failure and ambiguity with site-specific projects, sculpture, sound events, and projects for documentation.

His sound improvisations are the result of unstable objects, the manipulation of electronic devices, feedback and the intensification of acoustic space with an overlayering of sonic information.

Sindre Bjerga has been wiretapping the secret frequencies of ghostly drones for years now. Though a steady flow of releases on numerous labels around the world he has been channeling the spectral transmissions from the grey void...

Expect psychedelic drones that sometimes collide with snippets of found sounds from half-demagnetized tapes and concrete sounds from wrecked kitchen utensils.

Nils Rostad (Norway)
Nils Rostad has been playing improvised guitar for years (in addition to being a painter). His auto didactic approach can be very intense and private, owing more to American primitives like Dredd Foole, Loren Connors, or Christina Carter, than to the European avant-garde or free jazz. Using both timbre, attack, and volume as effects (in additon to effect pedals) his sound comes across as highly personal and sparse. He has also been playing with Sindre Bjerga under the name Magnetic North Duo.

Through improvising with a ever-changing archive of personal materials he is discovering a strange musical language where subtle relationships between human hand and recorded medium, intention and non-intention, harmony and discord, can be picked up and explored.

The recent re-introduction of unrecorded materials/instruments such as the organ, have brought about new focus and tension between raw and processed sounds as well as giving opportunity for sudden, unexpected shifts in musical direction and in the perceptions of the listener.

The duo offers sounds inspired by visual presentations of architectural plans. The fact that they come from the socialist era does not stem from any kind of nostalgia, rather a coincidence that allows the illustrations treatment as found objects. However, the visual part is carefully selected and agreed upon prior to the performance, constructing a basic frame of assumptions within which the sounds are created. Wiracki composes music for film and theatre. He also cooperates with PWSTiTV in Lodz, MTV Networks Poland and the legendary performance art group SUKA OFF from Katowice.

His debut album was released in the US in 2006 by "The Number One Noise" label. Single tracks can be found on different compilations in Poland, China, Norway and France.

In 2009 he released his fourth Electro-noise CD "Like a digital pillow" on Pirate House Records.

film-maker, visual artist and musician

StØrfan Sender will be exploring the drone-capacity of different acoustic materials as well as that of the listeners. These will interact with each other creating different sonic spaces due to physical conditions as well as further manipulation in a matrix of effect units. The whole setup acts as a kind of resonator in which every bit of mechanical or electronic infrastructure plays a crucial part in creating the actual sonic output in a harmonic sort of way.

Angie Nina (Yeowell) Blue is a dancer, video artist, and costume and sound designer. Most recently, she danced with the Second Company of Dance Theatre of Harlem in NYC.

She hasn't had supper in weeks because her hands were cut off in seminary school, where she perfected her skills making origami birds out of the Bible: She adds blue salt to the birds and they chirp out anti-Christ and anti-Nietzsche lyrics. These biblic, salty bird prayers seem to suffice for the lack of hands, but the difficulty preparing dinner remains.

This Friday we have a two performances from:

12 dog cycle Alice Hui-Sheng Chang (Taiwan)
and Nigel Brown (Australia) create sound in performance and recordings as 12 dog cycle. They pair the breathing limitations of piano accordion and human voice, extending the voice through extreme unconventional technique and the accordion’s acoustic properties with preparations and live electronic manipulation.

Accordion tones begin as a physical byproduct of the performer's exertion, but over time become a disembodied harmonic presence within the room. In contrast, the voice is mobile and distinctly human. While the accordion defines and modulates the performance space, the voice is the event; the tour guide through
time that provides the audience with an entrance and an exit.

Maxibacon is the collaboration of Freeka Peeka (Sgure/Gazormass - Bordeaux, France) and Scott Sinclair (Company Fuck/Botborg - Berlin, Germany). Equally inspired by computer glitch, grindcore, breakcore, cartoon music, and karaoke, Maxi Bacon serve up an electrified meat-punch to the brain with random collages of screaming digital nonsense and mass audio confusion. The basis of their sound comes from using highly customised music software to accompany their extreme and unpredictable vocal improvisations – from metal growls, to karaoke crooning, to uncomfortable vomiting, to microscopic spitting and breathing. Maxi Bacon deliberately carry themselves with a blatant disregard for appropriate musical conduct, instead indulging in brutal noise blasts, confusing musical choices, computer wizardry and vocal tupidity. In concert, Maxi Bacon are an improvised wireless noise show, diving into the audience for aggressive and childish conversations void of language or intelligence.

Possible directions, new relations, from spastic and destructured funk to free folk, to avant-noise... A music that is like a desert, yes, but swarming, crossed by fluxes, teeming crowd in it; a swarm of bees, a rumble of soccer players, or a group of Tuareg.
Myriad of lines dripping from any side, unpredictable movement, without meaning, without rythm
ASp is for A Spirale, founded in 2002 by Maurizio Argenziano and Massimo Spezzaferro, guitar and drums, former Missselfdestrrruction members ( "Asimmetrica" - Snowdonia, 2001), Mario Gabola, avantjazz saxophonist, and Anita Furlani, violist with academic background. Since January 2004 the band performs live as a three-piece (drums / guitar / sax), focusing much more on improvisation and with greater attention to electroacoustic research, while retaining postpunk physicality and immediacy. Then ASp (M.Argenziano, M.Gabola) meets SEC_ (synth and electronics), producing the same titled album ASp/SEC_, for FF HHH.

Totally mysterious to this purple prose etcher until this morning, the sounds imagined by Nikolaus Gerszewski possess the qualities typical of those produced by time-honoured composers, despite the fact that he started his music-writing activity – as an autodidact - only in 2003, after having worked as a visual artist and writer in previous years. The impulse for this new expressive method, influenced both by the aforesaid experiences and the studying of opuses by John Cage, Cornelius Cardew and Christian Wolff, came in the exact moment in which Gerszewski concentrated on the theory of “ordinary music”, the term implying a continuation of the non-representational features of figurative art in the sonic realm and the participation of trained and untrained musicians to the execution of materials mainly built on the superimposition of “layers, surfaces and objects”, thus privileging the spatial dimension as opposed to the temporal.

James Edmonds originates as a painter who works closely with photographs and processes that describe a kind of mediated human consciousness. A residue of the real world is flattened by the recording medium to produce a mysterious other reality/material existence. Through exploring sound recording and improvisation, his work has formed a coexisting musical language which reveals a similar atmosphere and resonance to these images. Recordings become part of an ongoing archive of an imaginary world. Personal memory is ingrained in the abstract language of sounds and fragile traces of melodies. Matthew Meade, is a composer, improviser and Sound Artist living in New York City. He works mostly with live improvisation, sound sculptures and most recently Dance. The focus of this music is to spontaneously compose electronic pieces with musical sensibilities, using LapTop (MSP) and Dobro. He has been described as anti-phonic as well as a rejection of minimalism... No drones, Minimal abstracted Repetition, and a musical arch are the main elements of this work.

BLIN, consisting of Luca Marini and Jasper Stadhouders, is an exciting band consisting of big sound spectrum layers, concrete rhythmical noise, sweet and surprising songs and a constant sparkling energy drive. All music is improvised and during the years that Jasper and Luca have been playing together, they developed a strong common language disregarding any styles and genres. Exploring the sound possibilities and the limits of the instruments is a constant challenge and including toys, various objects and found stuff to their sets enhances the impressive dynamic range that BLIN has to offer.

iD is an international site-specific project taking place in Gorzow, Poland, from 5-12th June 2009. Organised by Cork-based artist Bartek Nowak with SKART (Cork), Salon Bruit (Berlin), and Association Strefa Sztuki (Gorzow), and hosted by the Municipal Centre of Art (MOS) Gorzow. The project will bring together over 20 artists from Ireland, England, Germany, Poland, U.S., Switzerland, Netherlands, France and Japan for a week-long series of exhibitions, events, talks, and presentations addressing the issue of artistic identity.

Project ‘iD’ is the effect of conversations held between artists during ArtTrail ’08 in Cork. ‘iD’ is an attempt to outline artist’s identity and how it’s connected with their place of work? We are moving to learn, live, experience, fulfil. Some participants live abroad or often meet people from other countries. Multiculturalism is common. What factors influence artist’s practice like geography, social surround, economics, culture, history, politics, climate, etc.

This project is, hopefuly, the first in a series of collaborations and exhanges between Berlin, Cork and Gorzow to be organised by this group.

This coming Friday we have a night in the front bar of ACUD (that's upstairs at the Kantina, the bar to your left as look on from the street!). We have a trio of performers for you on this evening who have a focus on both concrète and synthesis. So there should be something there for everyone, I should imagine.

The trinity of musical intrigue includes:

Preslav Literary School focuses on creating something new and personal out of found sounds and dull, everyday happenings. A sense of wonder and amazement is conveyed through the sounds, and a sense of otherworldly significance is given to the simplest of actions. Thomas succeeds in making something fragile and exquisite out of tedium and monotony, and that is where the art of Beautiful Was The Time lies. This time truly is beautiful not unlike William Basinski with his Disintegration Loops.

Dominique Vaccaro is mainly focused on collage in a broad meaning of the term, extending the field of action from the visual to include sound. As a sound artist, he has experimented for years with the various possibilities of magnetic tape mixing short waves, field recordings, voice, guitars and other instruments, objects, feedback and all kind of residual sound. His approach to all of these is emotive, intimate and instinctive, flowings of sonic improvisation alternating frenetic phrases with calm, delicate moments. He has composed music for videos, performances as well a s the theatre.

Mario de Vega is a sound artist from Mexico City currently living in Berlin. His work includes sound and site-specific projects, sculpture and improvisation with electronic devices. As sound improviser his work is a blend of glitch sampling and drone ambiences with analog electronics, circuit bent devices, modified records and custom software in different combinations. Also as _memo (b side project) his sets are mainly composed of multi-layered mixes of avant-garde classics, free jazz and breakcore with a black sense of humor.

Kurort is a polish trio which plays freely improvised music evoking dolce far niente atmosphere. Although Arran Handully is the most popular lifeloop actress on the planet Capitol she is sick of acting and wants to retire. Her manager tells her of an idea that for one last lifeloop that will make her rich enough to quit. She suggests that Arran do a nonstop loop from the time she wakes up from suspended animation to the time she goes back to sleep using the fictional drug Somec twenty-one days later. Arran reluctantly agrees to this because she really wants to quit. On the last day of filming a famous lifeloop actor named Hamilton Ferlock comes to her apartment. Shortly after arriving he breaks character, tells her that he loves her and asks her to marry him. She assumes that he is just doing this to play a trick on her and rejects him very coldly before going to the Sleeproom to be put under Somec. When she wakes up she finds out that Hamilton committed suicide a week after she went to sleep. She also discovers that she really cared for him.

Three or four radio receivers and four mini-FM transmitters, each transmitting on a different frequency what it is being fed or what it picks up from the near field chaos surrounding it. The transmission between the devices is affected by what frequency the receivers are tuned to, the immediate electro-magnetic field, human presence and furniture. The signal is not a sound loop travelling in the area of intervention, but a spontaneous event, resulting from collective action in perpetual movement.

Kim Johannesen and Fredrik Kirkevold have played together in different constellations for several years, and have, after a lot of practising and searching, found a musical world of their own with a high level of communication. Musically, the duo is in constant change. The duo is a breathing space for both musicians, where they can play with their highest personal expressions, and develop new expressions through improvisation. The music is very dynamic and varies from total silence to total noise.

REVOLVER! was in 2008 chosen out of 51 Norwegian bands to participate in JazzIntro, Young Norwegian Jazztalents of the year, where they made it to the finals at Molde Int. Jazzfestival as the only band playing totally improvised music. Furthermore the duo has played at MaiJazz in Stavanger and toured Scandinavia and England, where they amongst others played at the well known jazz- and improv-venue The Vortex in London. They have also collaborated with the great Norwegian freejazz saxophonist Frode Gjerstad.

Pierre Borel wurde 1987 in Paris geboren. Er beginnt mit 7 Jahren Saxophon zu spielen und studiert Klassik und Jazz im CNR de Paris und dann im CNSM de Paris (conservatoire national superieur de musique), wo er Unterricht in Arrangement, Komposition und Improvisation bekommt. 2006 zieht er nach Berlin, studiert im J.I.B und interressiert sich immer mehr für improvisierte Musik. Er spielt im Trio "Luc Tonnerre", im Sextett vom Bassisten Andreas Waelti "Transit room" und gründete sein eigenes Septett, das "Pierre Borel Septett".

Clayton Thomas is a double bassist and grass roots organiser working in the broad spectrum of improvised and experimental music. He is Australian, but lives in Berlin. I'm trying to work out a physical activity equally engaged in electronic and acoustic music aesthetics, while maintaining the kind of transitional and transformative energy of the music that changed my life. I draw inspiration from creative music of all eras, happily learning from and engaging with improvisers, sound artists, composers and thinkers alive and kicking in the 21st century. I have been inspired and pushed by many great musicians, but would especially thank my first teachers Wilber Morris and Peter Kowald, and Jon Rose, Jim Denley, Andrew Meisel, Cooper-Moore, Tony Buck and Hollis Taylor for doing some real work on the topic.

Hannes Lingens (*1980 in Hamburg) studierte Schlagzeug bei Michael Griener und Günter "Baby" Sommer. Ausserdem spielt Hannes Lingens chromatisches Knopfakkordeon und veröffentlichte 2004 die Soloakkordeon CD „Hands up“ mit ausschliesslich eigenen Kompositionen. Er bewegt sich mit beiden Instrumenten im Spannungsfeld zwischen neuem Jazz und improvisierter Musik. Dieses Interesse führte ihn nach Berlin, wo er seit Sommer 2006 lebt. Er spielt u.a. mit den Bands Schulbus, Cassis, Obliq und arbeitete mit Künstlern wie Christof Kurzmann, Matthias Schubert und Ken Vandermark zusammen.

Split cdrs were made with Norss, Disciplina Urbana, Zieltogend, Al Qaeda, Gaad, Mystified, Mixturizer (for the series Harsh Music for Hot Nurses), Phalanx feat the White Rabbit, Frbz, Wolfsduister on various labels all around the world.

in 2009 Kristus Kut is signed by Quartier23 an label specialized in ritual music and books. The first release will be Kiss of The Black Queen. First an netrelease on the Okkulth netlabel, but will now be released as an deluxe cdr. the track -take me-i'm yours- has already been played on Aural Apocalypse. The performance at the K77 in Berlin on april 17th will be the presentation of this release.

All recordings on the cdrs were done in a live setting! No overdubs! Kristus Kut believes in capturing the moment. The present at that time. A ritual is not a ritual if it is done with extra adding. It was there. It is there!

Airbus in Berlin: O'tanzz airbus is a constantly changing (in terms of people and music) improv group based on Brussels. 'Airbus in berlin' is the opportunity to play when two of O'tanzz airbus active musicians, Rudy Servais (tuba and lot of stuff from anywhere...) and Hadrien Peters (Guitar and analogue synthesizer), come in Berlin to visit two of their Brussel's musician friends, Lisa Dangotte (flutes) and Guillaume Rabusseau (Computer (samples manipulation), recently landed on Berlin.
We'll try to make you travel with our music (which we don't already know what shape it will take) sometimes made of fury, sometimes of sleepiness, sometimes of nothing, sometimes of too much................"

PQA: These three young musicians from Roanne met in 2000 in a jazz festival in Bourguogne. They started their first music experiences at the high school the year after and had the maturity in 2002, just before losting theirselves in a music more and more experimental. After going to different kind of improvised music festivals, they decide to start again their work in trio, and created in the same way the MICRO association (Improvised Music in the region of Roanne). They had lot of concerts in France, England, Scotland and Ireland and collaborated with two musician Dubliners (2008) and with the dancer Li Ping Ting (2005). They especially like british, Japanese and Berliner improvised music. They use to celebrate their sound love with semi-acoustic music, intense and with a lot of relief.

Felicity Mangan is a sound artist from Melbourne, Australia. Over the last eight years she has participated in many collaborative/interdisciplinary projects with visual artists and contemporary dancers. The three musicians have the same deep interest in free improvisation and are playing in Salon Bruit for a special session of acoustic noise.

Lars Lundehave Hansen has been working in the fields of ambient/drones and noise for the past decade and then some, both as enthusiastic promotor of, and dedicated performer in these fields. He co-founded legendary organization Noisejihad and is the catalyst behind danish renowned drone-act Wäldchengarten. The latter having a batch of highly acclaimed releases under their belt.

The usual works of Lars L. Hansen are often installations or constructions, making a point of being constructions that emit or react to sounds or noise. An attempt to explore the relations between timbre / room and reaction / result. However, in live situations you can expect nothing but the sole attempt at trying to trancend the time/space-continuum through an eclectic blend of sounds considered more or less musical.

Die Elektronik ist dabei wesentliches und prägendes Element: vom laptop gespielte Samples werden klanglich verfremdet, ihrer ursprünglichen musikalischen Bedeutung beraubt und im Dialog mit E-Gitarre und angehängter Elektronik zu Stücken verarbeitet, welche nicht mehr eindeutig nur Improvisation oder Komposition sind, vielmehr eine Art „instant composing".

Die Kommunikation findet auf verschiedenen Ebenen statt: zwischen den Instrumentalisten (Klarinette und E-Gitarre), der jeweiligen Elektronik, aber ebenso , gleichsam rückgekoppelt, zwischen der Elektronik und den Instrumenten. Die Musiker schaffen eine Balance zwischen Rationalität und Irrationalität, Konventionalität und Extravaganz, zwischen beherrschbaren Faktoren in der Musik und unvorhergesehen Ereignissen.

Tetsuya Hori: My compositions have no concept. That’s my concept. I just see them as a tool that stirs up the minds or consciousness of the people listening. I’ve never felt that a performer did injustice to my pieces, for a composition only comes to life in the particular context, the combination of the performer and the atmosphere of the public. I like to compose not only for instruments, but for “things” as well. Sound of things can be surprising, especially their artificial sound. For example, without looking, one would never guess that my tapping and dragging fingers across the surface of a cigar box that is connected to a laptop for what it is.

Marinos Koutsomichalis: Intuitive improvisations ranging from environmental recordings and drones to generative music, glitches and harsh digital noise.

Shuttle Service: Mauro Martinuz is an Italian musician. He started to play solo performances 3 years ago, getting inspired by ambient and minimalist music (like Eno and Riley). There is no real structure in his compositions but a continuous overdubbing of walls of sound generated from the electric guitar. The different sequences are linked together by field recordings and noises generated by contact-microphones. Using just electric and acustic guitars, a violin bow and pedal effects, he creates his own sound full of random melodies and minimal beats obtained by beating the pick-ups.

Origami Boe (Norway/Spain)
is a transmedia artist originating from Norway. In his worklog there are no separation between conceptual art and sound making, as any means of expression become part of his general collage work.
Origami Boe is currently on a Hamburg/Dresden/Berlin tour with new serious material that according to his five-year old son is "very music".
A selection of wood boxes with various tiny objects attached; springs, stones, metal, rubber, string, needles, memorabilia - amplified by old-school contact mikes and pick-ups.

Dee Mee Tree (Russia/Berlin) - MACRO-PHONE
Collaborative sound performance created using a mobile phone and a Kaoss Pad effects processor. The audience is invited to use their own phones as microphones live and contribute their voice to the performance dialling a special number. Their sound might get looped, sampled, distorted, or played live just once.
In Macro-Phone both the audience and the performer become part of a feedback loop, where the content is created by the audience, but the structure (and speed) is controlled by the performer. What will become of the sound? How will the "actual" live voices interact with the "virtual" sampled copies? Will there be a point when the seemingly open structure will close down "satisfied" with just replicating itself?
Dee Mee Tree is a performer from Russia based in Berlin. His work explores the volatile space between body and technology using various mediums: from theatre and dance to music and telematic art.

Oori Shaley (Israel/Berlin)
Everything is instrument to be played on. Shake the cultural rules of music, play on chairs, metal saws and everyday objects, add some traditional drums and forget about their past. Although presented a solo, the duo is invisibly embedded inside - my strings to the past combined with the passion to fly provide the needed tensions for a wild performance.
Shalev is a percussionist, bang on anything from Indian tabla to drum-set,
kitchenware and ships. He tends to blend styles, interpolate between rhythms and break loose.

The live show is a highly ritualistic, theatrical feedback / noise thing. The music is totally improvised while the movements are mostly planned. There is a guy dressed like an Egyptian Mummy who plays feedback loops from contact mics and springs on speakers, 2 Japanese girls who play processed noise guitar and bass and myself who plays a self inputting Sherman filterbank and 3 simultaneous guitars.

Die vorbereitete Sounddatei (etwa das Wasser-Sample) ist die einzige Konstante. Sie kann nicht reagieren und auf Veränderungen eingehen wie die aufführenden Musiker, ist statisch. Dadurch entsteht noch mal mehr Spannung.

Mahmoud Refat is a sound artist, musician and the founder of 100COPIES MUSIC. He was born in 1974 and lives in Cairo whose work has been released on CD, performed live and installed in spaces. Aide Auditive (France)
Created in 2006, Aide Auditive, formed by Matohawk and MysthR, will not stop surprising us. Armed with their laptops and various kinds of controllers (joystick, sensitive mat, etc.), these two adept artists of computer era favor a live performance based on improvisation. They develop their own programs and use various open source software, thus exploring new tones and electronic music. Booming bass, stripping noise, embellished with a sweet and appeasing sonorous landscape of incessant down-tempo rhythms this music evolves wherever their moods carry it. Beyond the created sounds, a true complicity has been established and feeds their inspiration. « Implant Cochléaire », their first album released with the netlabel Antiblues, reflects these uncompromising improvisations.

All of their shows are different, they make them unique leaving a lot to improvisation and the inspiration of the moment. In Salon Bruit Mueran Humanos will play a special improvised instrumental set for home made oscillator (doo-rag) and bass, going back to their earlier days for one night. They will be joined by Overrated Soundsystem (VJ, Arg.) with found video footage in a special performance of sound/vision total improvisation.

Antoine Chessex (Switzerland)
Antoine Chessex is a swiss saxophone player, improviser, composer and experimental musician. His works are based on the exploration of the physicality of sounds and spaces.
Nowadays Chessex plays mostly as a solo performer appearing either in fully acoustic settings where his circular breathing drones react with the sonic architecture of the space he is performing in or amplifying his horn with amps or PA systems and electronic devices often resulting in intense live actions. His solo performances are experiences in total immersion in sound.

The unique sound can be attributed to both the sourcing of raw sound materials and the method of composition. Recording sonic experiments, spoken word, birdsong and drones onto cassette tapes and dictaphones, Adam then mixes these sources live with other found sound (including material from lofts, abandoned buildings and the sides of roads) to create layered soundscapes which recontextualise the original material into new improvised compositions of remarkable depth and quality. Within any performance one can expect to hear anything from jazz elegies, childhood radio stations, chattering starlings, traffic noise and beat poetry to mental arithmetic learning tapes, Holst, aboriginal gabba, Buddy Holly and musique concrète.

jérôme and jeanfrançois Blanquet convey their experiences into a noisy and abstract live art project liberated from conventional audivisual constraints.
DEMOLECULARISATION finds its sources from the Free improvisation genre. It explores the live action, questionning the possibilities of an audiovisual syntax. The duo plays with the technical constraints of the machines up to the point where their normal uses are challenged. jérôme, jeanfrançois Blanquet and the machines make one body towards a lively, spontaneous and unstable composition.

Marta Zapparoli aka Penelopex; born in the underground scene of Bologna. Her natural and cultivated sense of rhythm, her technical experience and her vivid curiosity led her in a direction of new digital experiences. From October 2006 she lives and plays in Berlin. “Ambient and Human emotions in broken melodies and noise is the place that I find. Using field recordings taken from the nature and the city life. The noise coming from the external world, comes leaked and translates in poetry vision creating oneiric sonorous landscapes.” The borders of the acoustic and the audible can be expanded beyond the threshold of perception.

Promute (North Carolina)
After playing in several different bands of varying degrees of success and styles, I chose to turn on the tape recorder and let out whatever I could pass thru the speakers. Promute started as a blank canvas in 2000 and thus far I have held onto the master tapes, not letting anyone into the chaos that is my brain. I have recently relocated to a quieter place and have decided to share my project with others. Look out for the RAST FIGMENT Ep next month, as well as the PROMUTE official website. RAST FIGMENT contains 5 songs and is over 60 minutes in length. It is an homage to the destructive beauty of nature and noise.

was founded in 2007 by daniel weiß and nikolaus neuser. in the free improvised music of luxator the analog electronic generated sounds of the luxophon meet a sometimes unconventionel played trumpet .
the luxophon was created by daniel weiß in 2001 based on the solar sound modules by ralf schreiber. the trumpet was invented some time before. the oldest trumpets date back to 1500 BC and earlier. The bronze and silver trumpets from tutankhamun´s grave in Egypt, bronze lurs from Scandinavia, and metal trumpets from China date back to this period.

The work of matthijs v. kouw involves an exploration of the relation between movement and stasis by juxtaposing drones with more dynamic counter-elements - a process that may be called 'kinetic engineering'. The latter entails the creation of slowly throbbing and enveloping meshworks of sounds, which converge and disperse. A mix of drones and microsound intertwines deep slabs of sound with subtle movements, and thus creates an immersive effect. The aim is to hint towards compossibilities of different sonic trajectories that may thus reveal possible topological features. The focus on the internal dynamics of these pieces thus established may lead to a reconsideration of what a sonic event can be said to entail.

Christian Pincock (NY/Berlin) integrates technology, physicality, and disparate musical concepts into his work using a computer-based instrument he built using MAX/MSP. For this performance, Christian will be performing a new composition involving live manipulation and processing of pre-recorded improvisations on everyday objects combined with field recordings.
Currently in Berlin until April 2008, he has lived in Boston and New York City where he has worked with performing artists of all disciplines in a broad range of situations.

Jason Robinson (North America) and Ostear (Ireland/Berlin)
Jason Robinson is a California-based saxophonist, composer, and scholar. He has performed and presented his work in Europe, Canada, Mexico, and throughout the United States at prominent venues and festivals. Robinson currently leads the Jason Robinson Quartet and is a member of several collaborative groups, including Cosmologic and the Cross Border Trio.
Ostear is Keith O Brien and Roy Carroll unfurling a particularly opulent carpet of sonological excitement for Jason and themselves to frolic on giddily.

Lise-Lotte Norelius (Sweden) is a composer and performer of composed or improvised music, for various objects, percussion and live-electronics. Her music is about motion and emotion, by exploring the energy of sound, rhythmic structures and layers.The preference for rhythmic patterns and sound, derives from all the years with traditional African music and the work with sampled sounds and drums. She collaborates a lot with other musicians, dancers/choreographers and intermedia artists, but performs also as solo-artist. For this night she will perform a sad (hopefully) song, together with a babusjka from Ukraine.

is a recording engineer, composer and multimedia artist. After Graduating from Toulouse School of Fine Arts, in 2000, he joined the artist collective Construct, with Frederic Blin (multimedia programming), Cathie Verdin (dance) and Rémi Duveauchelle (lights). Within this context, he directed videos and composed sound works.
At the moment for his live performance he is working with natural soundscapes that he collects everywhere. Sounds like wind, fire, birds and ambient drone are used in contrast with an artificial soundscape processed with max msp.

Artists' collective formed with the meeting of Marco Bernacchia (M.A.Z.C.A.) with Paolo Campagnola (arbdesastr, matäng). They come from different experiences and different cities. Marco comes from Senigallia (An) and studied arts, Paolo comes from Verona and chose musical and technical studies. It can be deduced that the collective's sinergy has the shape of a serial killer, precise and unpredictable. In spite of the different approaches, they come to the same conclusion that pushes them towards a common creative sense: there is no limit between the different artistic subjects because all of them are in some way oriented to communication.
Starting from this point, the collective begins its activities composing electronic music directly by e-mail, choosing to use this media trying to break the rules imposed by the time/space compression generated by the "nowhere", that is the net.

Demolecularisation (France+Belgium)

olivier di placido(table top guitar) + ruben patino (laptop) ,present their new collaboration project where analog and acoustic sound techniques meet digital sound processing .
this project is called carn de porc and it goes in another direction than brutal harsh noise that makes neighbours complain and breaks the speakers.
it is neither cheesy ambient nor soft drone you better might expect something noisy and dirty but plenty of details and textures. feedbacks, modulated frequencies, contact microphones, digital textures and buzzes are part of their unstable sound that reacts with the room.

For tonight's evening Khan will present a seamless continuous mixture of older and newer music pieces including: lust, figure and ground, KOMPRESSOR (music based on translating sets of dreams), lamptone, G.R.A.H.A.M., beautiful music and host. The Pieces are accompanied by different video sequences specially shot by the artist (a monochorome Red that slowly shifts color, vertiginous dream-like tracking/crane shots of solitary public lamps at night, a portrait of a photographer, a Lynchian moment where a desk lamp is transformed into something else etc..).?

Khan uses a battery of Feedbacking mixers, filters and processors, laptop manipulation, virtual synthesizer and live mikes in tandem to pre-composed and recorded string sections/tabla beats/ney trills/piano compositions in carefully arranged sequences that mix live improvisation with studio arrangements (this is not fusion / this is not beat with effects on top of it- these are worked out unfolding compositions that work with sound and music..)

Tron Lennon (UK)
As a guitarist and DJ we have spent several years extending our practice through free improvisation and experimentation. Paul’s turntable-centric practice deals exclusively with pre-existing musics, whereby raw, unmediated material coexists alongside more direct causal gestures. This could easily be configured as an attempt to put agency back into that which we have lost through acousmatic listening and recording; an attempt to make recorded music live again. For John, the guitar is one element within a multi-faceted setup which includes assorted pedals, circuit-bent keyboards and other electronic instruments. These instruments foster unpredictability but maintain high levels of tactility, and in offering moments of resistance to direct causal action can embrace both intentional and unintentional activity. Working beyond a paradigm where musicians perform pre-composed works, Tron Lennon celebrate spontaneity and the ephemeral nature of sound. In exploring indeterminate and dysfunctional systems alongside more direct causal gestures, they embrace unpredictability as a strategy to probe, provoke and generate creative response.

In their current live set Paul uses Ms Pinky VJ software to manipulate digital video whilst John uses Max/Jitter and live camera feeds, allowing performance gesture to intervene in pre-recorded and synthetically generated visual materials.

My pieces do not have a concept. That is the concept. The concept develops in the head of the listener. I get the feedback, and the feedback influences my music and like I see it.
I compose not only for instruments, but for things. The sound of the things is interesting. Not only the natural sound, but also the processed sound. The sources of sound are not necessarily special, but the sound, which results from the arrangement.
Each piece is different. Every time. It is affected by the atmosphere, which is created the area and the public. The piece mostly consists of article + computer program + space + public.
I want to show the listener nonsense. Interesting nonsense.

For tonights concert Tetsuya will plays 2 pieces totalling 40minutes. One piece he will play sitting down on a chair and the other piece standing up.

JUDY DUNAWAY (New-York)
Composer, improvisor and conceptual artist who is primarily known for her sound works for latex balloons. Since 1990 Judy Dunaway has composed over thirty works for balloons as instruments and has also made this her main instrument for improvisation.
Judy Dunaway has presented her compositions and improvisations for balloons throughout North America and Europe at many venues and festivals. Her compositions for balloons include electronic and multi-media works, sound installations, and works that incorporate more traditional instrumentation such as string quartet, chorus and Japanese koto.
Dunaway has a Ph.D. in Music Composition from State University of New York at Stony Brook, where she studied with analog electronic music composer Daria Semegen and multi-media artist Christa Erickson, and a M.A. in Experimental Music from Wesleyan University (Connecticut) where she studied with composer Alvin Lucier.
She has also created other works, often to do with social activism or cultural critique. Most recently, Dunaway has founded a not-for-profit educational webcast for audio art and activism concerning the rights of sex workers called "Sex Workers' Internet Radio Lounge".

Paul Prendergast aka Avant Reguard is an Irish born, Berlin based music producer/sound artist and filmmaker. His early music production activities involved making extremely lo-fi but incredibly detailed, dark and savagely humorous cassette samples utilising radio, other cassettes and microphones, on cheap double cassette decks(pause on, off and on and so on..)

Joined the pirate radio station Radio Active in Dublin in 1993 and fronted an experimental radio show for over 4 years, gathering together over 100 cassette shows of experimental tape to tape chopping, cutting and layering. Here he gained an appreciation and love of densely layered music, voice and live improvised microphone manipulations. He channeled the skills he honed in the radio studio onto the dj scene from 1998 up to the present day.
Original music production activities commenced in 1999 where he produced soundtracks to his own films. Though his sound is constantly changing and inevitably evolving, some constants include voice sample and found sound appropriations and recontextualisations, and densely layered lo fi hums, drones and environmental squeals. These elements usually combine to create an equally witty and dark aural sonic soundscape.
Paul will be presenting his current audio visual work “New Ireland City Sucks” this weekend.

Has been composing sound via elecroacoustic transformation and live improvisation for over 13 years. Trained originally as a classical guitarist, the sonic possibilities of «musique concrete " and other methods of sound manipulation/composition, led him to further study the primary idea of sound itself . Taking these techniques he founded the performance art troupe Center for Transgressive Behaviors in Raleigh, NorthCarolina, and remained their sound designer for several tours of the US and Europe. He also toured with the free improvisation ensemble, The Feraliminal Lycanthropizers, playing electric guitar and electronics and sharing the stage with Tim Hodgkinson and Franz Hautzinger in Europe. His continued interest in spectralist and post-concrete music resulted in the solo release 'L'Eve...' and a collaborative effort with Koji Tano's MSBR project. His recent collaborations have been with the legendary Maurizio Bianchi and Yannick Franck and a new solo release plus a new collaboration with Italian sound artists Ur will be released soon ..

Marcelo Aguirre has resided in the city of Berlin for the past six years. He curated and co-curated events at the Podewil Contemporary Arts Center in Berlin, 2003-2004 (Sculpture Musicale; Violet Music I & II; der negative horizont). MAURO MARTINUZ
Mauro Martinuz is an italian musician. He started to play solo performances 2 years ago, getting inspired by ambient and minimalistic music (like Eno and Riley). There is no real structure in his compositions but a continuous overdubbing of walls of sound generated from the electric guitar. The different sequences are linked together by field recordings and noises generated by contact-microphones. Using just electric and acustic guitars, a violin bow and pedal effects, he creates his own sound full of random melodies and minimal beats obtained by beating the pick-ups.

Ambient meditative improvised music.

Tomoko Miyata improvises on waterbowls, a self-invented percussion instrument made of Chinese porcelain bowls filled with water, inspired by an instrument of carnatic music (south india), Jalatarangam. The pure and delicate melodies are live-sampled and slightly processed by Gilles Aubry to
create new layers of sound mixed with the original ones.
They come together with a highly meditative music which illusion of
polyphony generates a sensation of pleasant vertigo.

Born in Japan, Tomoko Miyata studied classical and jazz piano in Japan and
NYC. Then she worked in Tokyo as a jazz pianist and electro-acoustic
musician and now lives in Paris where she started with her waterbowls
instrument.

Gilles Aubry is a Swiss sound artist & computer musician based in Berlin
since 2002. In his sound work he uses field recordings, improvisation and

Polly Fibre (IRL) - Glitchstitch
Polly's performances are a series of indiscreet compositions that explore aspects of contemporary pop culture through a post-digital aesthetic. In previous works Craftwork (2005-2006), Cut & Paste (2006) and Glitchstitch (2007), digital analogies are renegotiated through materials, tools and machinery. Processes of fashion construction are unravelled to reveal their core elements which in turn become the raw material for building new compositions in a performative context.
The tools are re-visited, focusing on the sonic elements of a craft which has come to appear nostalgic in light of mass production.

With the sound of the use of daily objects, Kaspar König tweaks, bends and changes the daily (auditive) habits. He uses the recorded results in performances, concerts and contemporary dance music. For instance, he'll play the electric razor that turned into a sound shaver which effects the feedback. In the circuit bending workshop he inspires participants to open the box of the machines, mainly to discover the enormous world of the shielded short-circuit. Rob Curgenven (AUS): field recordings, prerecorded piano
Derek Holzer (USA): analog synthesizer, pure data improvisation for field recordings and analog synthesizer.

Holzer and Curgenven both draw upon their diverse backgrounds in field recording, sound art, modern composition, noise and experimental music to create this live sonic environment. Their improvisations focus on the interrelation of Curgenven's detailed recordings from the Australian Outback and a selection of prerecorded piano resonances juxtaposed with Holzer's slowly modulated, shimmering and crackling synthesizer tones.
The combination of these sources poses the question: what is "real", what is "constructed"? Where is the border between the actual sound event, its digital reproduction and its sonic simulation?
